Principal's Letter - November Newsletter

Dear Carlos Gilbert Families,

Can you believe it is almost December, and we are approaching the midyear mark?

The staff and I are preparing for our mid-year assessments. Kindergarten through 2nd graders will be taking the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessment during the week of December 17th through the 21st. This is a one-on-one test given by their teacher to assess growth in Reading. 3rd through 6th graders will be taking the DEA (Discovery Education Assessment) on December 11th and 12th. This assessment will also show growth in the areas of Language Arts
and Math.

Our school was afforded $25,000 by SFPS to enhance our current educational program. We have decided to hire a math/data coach for one day a week. This person will help disaggregate data for teachers, pin point student needs in the area of
math, and role model best practices for teaching math. In addition, we will be implementing SRA Reading Mastery and Corrective Reading for students who are significantly below grade level in reading.

Remember to read with your child every night and fill out the Blackhawk Bookmark!
