Dear Carlos Gilbert Families,

Autumn has arrived! Can you believe we are nearing the end of the first quarter? The first quarter ends
on October 16th and parent teacher conferences are scheduled for October 29th and 30th. I have visited
all classrooms several times and know that amazing teaching and learning is occurring daily!

What’s new this school year?

  • Teachers are implementing the new Common Core State Standards, which were created to ensure that all students are college and career ready by the end of high school. This is a more rigorous set of standards (what needs to be learned) than the NM standards that were previously used.
  • Teachers meet weekly in “Professional Learning Communities” or PLC’s to collaborate on lesson planning and effective teaching, analyze data and create action plans for individual student and classroom needs.
  • Response to Intervention, or “Walk to What You Need”, is occurring to ensure all students are being challenged at their academic level.
  • Teachers are preparing “Student Data Folders/Binders” which will contain information on individual academic goals and progress. Students will graph their own performance! These folders will be shared with you at the parent teacher conferences.
Reminders! Please do not allow your child to go to the playground after school unless they are being
supervised by an adult. Never park in the parent pick-up and drop-off lane during arrival or dismissal
times. Always use the crosswalk, do not cross the parking lot at any other location. Thank you for
helping keep everyone safe!!

Thank you for your support!
