Pet Parade

Mark your calendar for the Pet Parade! 
Saturday, September 9th

CGE's theme this year is SUPER READERS.

Come dressed as your favorite super heroes and help us hand out bookmarks to the crowd!

Meet between 8:30 and 8:45 am in the parking lot behind the New Mexico School for the Arts (at the corner of East Alameda and Paseo de Peralta). Look for Cindy Matsushita holding a sign high for the Blackhawks.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

Carlos Gilbert Cares is doing a direct donation campaign for the victims of hurricane Harvey. They hope to collect $5.00 from every student in the school. Every teacher has a folder to collect the donations. 

Sixth grade students will also be doing a presentation about the hurricane and the campaign in every classroom. The goal is to collect, in total, $1,500. The proceeds will all be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to help people affected by the hurricane.

As part of these efforts, the sixth grade is hosting a Movie Night on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 5:30 PM.  Admission is $2 per person. Pizza and snacks will be available for purchase. Movie will be the Smurfs.

Back to School Night is Thursday, August 24

Join us on August 24th to see your children's classrooms and meet their teachers. The event will run from 5:30 - 7 p.m. 

5:30 - 6 p.m.: Visit K - 2nd grade classrooms
6 - 6:30 p.m.: General assembly for all grades in the gym
6:30 - 7 p.m.: Visit 3rd - 6th grade classrooms

We will have pizza, drinks, and t-shirts available for purchase. We would love your help with this fundraising portion of the event - please sign up for 30 minutes!

Help us welcome new kindergarten parents at this meet-and-greet on Aug 18th from 7:45 - 8:45 a.m. Please sign up here to introduce yourself, tell new families about our school and life as a kindergartner, have some coffee and doughnuts, and sell t-shirts. We would love help from rising 1st grade parents, and any others interested. 

Blackhawk After School Program

New School Start and Release Times!

Please note the new, earlier start and release times. 

Monday-Thursday: 7:50 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. 
      (Kindergarten will release at 2:40 p.m.
Friday: 7:50 am - 12:30 pm
      (Kindergarten will release at 12:20 p.m.)

Students will be considered tardy at 7:55 a.m., and a parent must walk the student in and sign them in after 7:55 a.m. 

Bike and Roll to School Day - May 10

Join thousands of other kids around the country by rolling into school on your human-powered wheels -- bike, scooter, skateboard, tricycle, tag-a-long!  Meet ups will be organized from Casa Solana neighborhood and Ft. Quality of Education Survey

Each year, the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is required by NM statute to administer the Quality of Education Survey to parents. We want to hear from you about the quality of education we are providing. We ask that you take a few minutes to complete the survey by Friday, April 21. Please visit and follow the steps to complete an online version of the survey.  Alternatively, a QR code to access the survey was sent home in last Thursday's folder.  Thank you!

It's time to begin thinking about next school year!

At CGE, almost all grade levels departmentalize, which means students will work with all grade-level teachers in different subjects. If you would like to provide parent input on your child's placement, please email Ms. Pietrocci at and explain your child's learning style and social strengths/needs, no later than April 14. The staff will roster students based on gender, academic ability, behavior, Special Education needs and English Language Learner needs, and parent input. 

Feel free to visit classrooms next week March 13-17 from 8-10 am.  

Registration Process 
You will receive the following 2 documents in this Thursday folder: Intent to Return form and a Student Profile Sheet.  

If you are returning to CGE, you simply fill out the letter of intent form, update your child's profile sheet, and return both documents to your classroom teacher by Friday, March 24.

If you will not be returning to CGE next school year (including 6th graders moving to another SFPS school), you will need to register your child for that new school at CGE. Registration times are March 14, 15, 16 from 8:30am to 2:30pm in the front office.

If your child is planning to attend a private or charter school next year, simply return the letter of intent to your child's teacher.
