Kinder and 1st Grade Concert Coming Up

Kinder and 1st Grade Music Concert: Thur, Jan 25th - 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

All concerts will have a during-school performance and an evening performance. If for any reason your child cannot
attend, please let Kachina Walker know for planning purposes.

CG yearbooks are on sale and can be purchased in the front office for $20. 

We are collecting pictures for the yearbook. Please send photos of students engaged in classroom activities, sporting events, field trips, or other CGE functions to bcortez@sfps.k12.nm.us.  

Green Team News and STEM Activities

Sustainability education is in full swing at CGE, led by Ruby Lopez of Earthcare. Ruby is providing sustainability education in all 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade classrooms two times per month, including a fun aquaponics model! Ruby also leads our afterschool Green Team club, which meets Tuesdays from 3 - 4 p.m. All students are invited to join us in the art room (or garden if its not too cold) before winter break to continue working on garden craft activities such as seed saving, recycled bead making, and plantable cards. In mid-March, all students are invited to join us back in the garden as the Green Team prepares to plant our spring crops.

The Green Team is looking for twelve 3rd - 6th graders to complete a very exciting program in January to green our school! We will conduct a STEM-based school investigation on waste reduction and recycling through Project Learning Tree. This program will run on Tuesdays from 3 - 4 p.m. from January 9 - March 6. Activities may include field trips, guest speakers, lunchroom observations, and data gathering. The team's findings and ideas will be presented to the PTK, Ms. Pietrocci, and the SFPS Sustainability Department to make real sustainability changes to the CGE campus. Our site investigation will help put CGE in the running for an official school lunchroom composting program with Reunity Resources!! If you are interested in having your student join us, there will be sign up forms in the front office and also in the 3rd - 6th grade upcoming Thursday folders. Please return them by December 14th to secure your student's spot. If you have any questions, please call 920-0409 or email Lynette Guevara.

Giving Tree

Help bring CGE children a little magic this holiday season by participating in our Giving Tree project: provide a gift for a student whose family could benefit from some extra help. View the anonymous gift tags displayed on the tree in the school foyer. You select the tag, purchase the suggested gift, and return it wrapped to us by December 13th. We distribute gifts to students (discreetly) the day before we leave for Winter Break. Contact Frances with any questions.

Science Fair

The 2017-2018 CGE Science Fair will be held on Monday, December 11th.
We have three exciting categories of projects:
  • 4th Grade Models
  • 5th Grade Demonstrations
  • 4th-6th Grade Experiments
There will be winners in all three categories. 

Parents are invited to view the projects from 4 - 5:30 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Carnival Success!

Thank you to all who worked so hard and came out to support the school. It was the students, parents, teachers and staff at Carlos Gilbert that made this event a huge success! 

We surpassed our fundraising goal of $30,000 and made a record-breaking net profit of over $34,000! Cash raffle ticket sales alone netted over $13,000 this year... a new record!

Top Cash Raffle Ticket Selling Classes
We will be throwing parties for the top TWO selling classes on each floor for Cash Raffle.

Upstairs:
1st Place: Mrs. Sabatino's class
2nd Place: Mrs. Wheelers class

Downstairs:
1st Place: Mrs. Pong's/Mrs. Cross's class
2nd Place: Mrs. Biree

Downstairs was a super close race: 260 tickets were all that separated the highest selling class and the lowest selling class.

Science Fair

The 2017-2018 CGE Science Fair will be held on Monday, December 11th! Just like last year, the District is no longer including projects of third graders or younger. K-3 students are welcome to complete a Science Fair project and participate in the CGE Science Fair, but these projects will not be judged or considered for inclusion in the District Science Expo. If you would like your lower-grade student to complete a project, please contact his or her teacher for information.

Information and grade-level requirements have already been sent home for 4th-6th grade students. Fourth grade students are required to complete a model and a research paper, but may choose to complete an experiment instead. Likewise, 5th graders are required to complete a demonstration and research paper, but may choose to complete an experiment instead. Sixth grade students are required to complete an experiment. Remember, only experiments will be judged by District judges and considered for inclusion in the District Science Expo. 

All projects, however, will be judged at the CGE Science Fair. We are excited to announce that students from Santa Fe High School will serve as judges for 4th and 5th grade models and demonstrations.

Thanksgiving Lunch

Join your kids and their friends at school for Thanksgiving Lunch on Thursday, November 16th.  

Grades K and 1: 10:30 -11:30 a.m.    
Grades 2, 3, 4: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.    
Grades 5 and 6: 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Price: $5 Adults  $2 Siblings
Payment for lunch will be taken on the day of the luncheon.
