Positions for school crossing guards are currently being advertised.  The position wage is $10.00 per session.  (Each session is approximately 45 minutes)  It’s a great part-time position for SFPS staff before and after school!

Minimum:

High School Diploma, GED or related experience.

Preferred:

Bilingual – Spanish/English

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Great part-time position for SFPS staff before and after school and for retirees.

Control traffic to ensure children may safely cross streets to enter and exit school property within designated school zones and pedestrian crosswalks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Knowledge of traffic regulations. Ability to be assertive with drivers. Organize and direct children to wait until it is safe to cross a street and direct them to walk not run.

Hand held stop sign, whistle, and safety vest. Employee needs to provide personal inclement weather equipment such as jackets, boots, hat, gloves, scarves, sun glasses, sun screen, etc. Personal phone to call in sick or late if necessary.

Must be able to walk, hold a sign and raise arm/hand to stop traffic. Ability to bend and stoop to help a child off the ground if he/she falls. Will stand while on duty. Speaking, hearing, and visual acuity, including close, peripheral, color, distance, and depth, are essential to the effective performance of position tasks. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity are required for most essential functions. Must have full use of arms and legs. Mental application includes mental alertness at all times, especially while performing duties in traffic conditions;
