UPDATE: 10/1/12

It’s Election Time for Student Council!  Fifth and sixth graders can run for school wide President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. As a gentle reminder, students running for office may only give away inexpensive pencils, bookmarks, and erasers. Campaign literature is limited to signs no bigger than posters using blue painter’s tape to be place in the gymnasium and smaller stickers that can be placed on student clothing.  Campaign speeches will be given on Friday October 11 at a school wide assembly. More information about election guidelines can be found on the  attachment named Student Council General Guidelines.

Dear Carlos Gilbert Parents:

We will be starting student council government during the month of October.

If your child is interested in running as a classroom representative or President, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer, they will need to complete an Intent to Run form signed by you and teacher or staff member at the school (Attached to bottom of this post).

Throughout the year, student council members will be responsible for representing their grade levels and improving and addressing issues for the student body and school as a whole.

Meetings will be held every other week during lunch from 12:00-12:15, Wednesdays.

Officer Positions: Only 5th & 6th graders can run for these positions.

President

Vice President (determined by earning the second most votes for president position)

Treasurer

Secretary

 Elections

Each candidate needs to submit an “Intend to Run” form they can get from the library or a teacher.  Students will need recommendations from you and a teacher or staff member.

Campaigning will start Monday, October 1st.  All Intent to Run forms must be submitted no later than Thursday October 11th.

Signs in gym only- Poster size or smaller. Signs in the classroom are at the teacher’s discretion.

No edible bribes. Students are expected to be respectful and honest regarding what they want to do and why  they should be elected.

A general assembly to hear candidate speeches will held on Friday, October 12.

Students will vote for school wide positions and class room representatives after the general assembly in their classrooms.

Winners will be announced on Monday October 15.
