About Carlos Gilbert

Carlos Gilbert is a downtown public elementary school of approximately 330 students. Our building
was a WPA (Work Progress Administration) project built in 1941 and several generations of families have attended the school. The downtown location gives us a unique position in the culture and history of Santa Fe. Students are able to take advantage of a lot of things the city has to offer - museums, performance venues, the Plaza, and the many historical sites are all within walking distance of the school.

Students come from all over Santa Fe to attend Carlos Gilbert. Over half of the students are inter-zone transfers from other parts of town. This gives the school a true multicultural look and attitude. They come for the excellence and experience of our teachers, who focus on each child's individual needs and strengths.

Our downtown building was extensively renovated in 2010, not only to modernize the interior, but to restore some of the beautiful historical elements that were destroyed over the years.  A new and spacious kindergarten wing, a music space, and a large new library have been added. So if you are an alumnus or a former teacher or parent, come check out our new look. You will be amazed at the transformation!
