Dear Families,

 

We are excited to once again offer Battle of the Books at Carlos Gilbert! Battle of the Books is a reading program for students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. Students read from a shared list of books throughout the school year and work together in teams to prepare for our school competition in the spring. The program gives students an opportunity to read across genres, discover new books, and share their reading with others. This year's Battle of the Books list includes 20 books. Participating students are encouraged to read at least 10 of the 20 titles. Students will work in teams of four, with the goal of having all 20 books read by team members before our school competition in April/May 2027. Students do not need to purchase the books. Copies may be checked out from the Carlos Gilbert Library or the Santa Fe Public Library. We will also help students locate and access titles throughout the year. During our meetings, students will discuss the books they have read, practice Battle-style questions, and share important details with their teammates. All meetings will take place during the school day, beginning in early October.
